Veto session resolution passes House

The Texas House has voted for a constitutional amendment that would authorize a special legislative mini-session reserved for over-riding gubernatorial vetoes. If approved by the Senate  HJR 29 would put a constitutional amendment before Texas voters on November 3, 2009. The  would be convened only if a majority of the members request the session in writing and the session would be  limited to three days.

The proposal was very popular in the House, passing 131-16. While the governor has no official role in the proposal of a constitutional amendment, Governor Perry’s office was quoted in a Dallas Morning News story saying, ‘We think the current system works just fine the way it is.”
